How To Become A Resident Licensed Producer

You must first complete the pre-licensing education requirement of 20 hours per line of authority; 7.5 of the 20 hours must be completed in a classroom setting i.e., Life, Accident/Health, Fire, Casualty, Personal Lines - Property Casualty, except for Motor Vehicle which 12.5 hours of pre-licensing and 5 hours must be in the classroom setting, Clicking here will provide you with a look-up of certified education providers that you can use to obtain your pre-licensing requirement.

You will be required to show proof of completion of pre-licensing at the test center before you will be allowed to sit for the exam. Proof of completion is obtained from the education provider.

Review the Insurance Licensing Examination Candidate Handbook. The Handbook describes how, when and where to apply for the producer examination.

When you pass the licensing examination you will be given your pass sheet along with an instruction sheet by Pearson Vue, the test administrator. Carefully read the instruction sheet and retain for your records. We have no way of providing you a duplicate copy.

ON-LINE APPLICATION PROCESS
  • Five (5) days after passing your exams you will be to apply on line at www.nipr.com . Illinois is using the last day of your birth month as your expiration date and the fee paid for licensure thru NIPR will be prorated for the birth month expiration date.

OBTAINING A PAPER COPY OF THE LICENSE

  • Once you have completed the application process thru NIPR and you have received an e-mail from them that it was successfully completed, your application information will be submitted to Illinois. The Illinois Department of Insurance uses the National Producer Number (NPN) as you license number and it takes up to five (5) days from the date we receive the application information to have the NPN assigned. Once the NPN is assigned you are able to go to the following website to register your information which will allow you to print a copy of the license and monitor your Continuing Education requirement. http://insurance.illinois.gov/Producer/PrintLicenseCETranscript.pdf

If you fail the exam, Pearson Vue will provide the results and the procedures to arrange for another exam with Pearson Vue
