About the Illinois Department of Insurance

Acting Director Andrew Boron
I am pleased to welcome you to the Illinois Department of Insurance. Our mission is:
"To protect consumers by providing assistance and information, by efficiently regulating the insurance industry's market behavior and financial solvency, and by fostering a competitive insurance marketplace."
The Department carries out this mission through effective administration and enforcement of the Illinois Insurance Code (215 ILCS 5/1 et seq.), the Illinois Pension Code (40 ILCS 5/1-101 et seq.), and related laws and regulations, including Title 50 of the Illinois Administrative Code. The Department has three major operating Sections: Consumer-Market, Financial-Corporate Regulatory, and Legal. The Department also sponsors the Senior Health Insurance Program, and the Director is responsible for the operations of the Office of the Special Deputy Receiver, which handles the affairs of insurance companies placed in rehabilitation, conservation or liquidation.
If you would like to learn more about our organizational structure and regulatory functions, the Department of Insurance Overview provides a thumbnail sketch of our operations. We are continually exploring new ideas for expanding our portion of the Website and hope you will check back from time to time to see what we've added.
